The final stage of the HLMA 2023 saw over 70 teams from around 50 secondary schools competing for the top honours. Under the supervision of their teachers, each team decided on a mathematics topic, conducted research and submitted a written report. After undergoing a thorough assessment by the Scientific Committee, 15 teams were selected to continue to the Oral Defense stage.

The HK Phil is proud to be the host of this year’s event, which will feature a fascinating talk by two HLMA past winners: Dr Owen H. KO, a 2004 HLMA winner and Assistant Dean (Research) at the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong; and Ewina PUN, a 2012 HLMA winner and doctoral candidate at Brown University. They will share their unique perspectives and experiences on the importance of mathematical problem-solving skills. They will also discuss the potential of using mathematics to understand human behavior and enhance brain development. The talk is free to the public, and all are welcome to join.
