The HK Prize
The hk prize is a prestigious award given to individuals and organisations who are working towards the betterment of Hong Kong. The winners of the prize are recognised for their contribution to the social welfare, economic development and cultural enrichment of the city. They also play an important role in promoting international development cooperation.
The winners of the HK Prize are selected by an independent jury panel. This year, a total of 30 nominees were considered by the jury, which was chaired by M+ director Suhanya Raffel. The jury was composed of internationally renowned art figures such as Maria Balshaw, director of the Tate museums in London; Gong Yan, director of Power Station of Art in Shanghai; Mami Kataoka, director of Tokyo’s Mori Art Museum; Glenn D. Lowry, director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York; and Chinese artist Xu Bing.
Winners of the HK Prize will receive a grant of HK$500,000, a certificate and a trophy. In addition, they will have the opportunity to showcase their work in an exhibition at M+, which opens in September 2025. They will also be part of a wider programme of events that will take place during the prize week from Oct 14 to 17.
Besides, the winners will be featured in an interactive science gallery at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park in Sha Tin. Five scientists from the city have won this prestigious award in the past, including chemistry professors Gregory Winter and Michael Levitt and microbiologist Yuen Kwok-yung.
In addition to monetary rewards, the winners will have the chance to work with top-notch experts in their respective fields. They will also get the opportunity to be interviewed in major media outlets and make public appearances.
The HK Prize is open to all citizens and permanent residents of Hong Kong, as well as individuals and institutions from abroad who are interested in making contributions to the development of the city. The competition is organized by Generocity, a charity organisation that aims to promote Hong Kong as a platform for international development cooperation.
The HK Prize focuses on the following areas: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech. Applicants should support the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and possess high social morality and professional ethics. They should also be based in universities or industry-education-research bases and institutes set up by Hong Kong higher education institutions located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
