This year’s hk prize winners include a researcher using technology to aid homeless individuals and an artist who reinterprets human rights into fine art concepts. The winning scientists will present their work at the awards ceremony to gain international exposure for their research. In addition to the monetary prizes, winning scientists will have the chance to travel to Hong Kong and work with local researchers to further enhance their research skills.
The HK prize is an honor bestowed on scientific research with an enormous effect on society. Open to researchers worldwide and chosen through a rigorous peer review process, the HK prize helps to expand career prospects for many recipients. The HK prize has been recognized for its unique model of independent research, and is among the most prestigious in Asia.
Justice Centre Hong Kong aims to ensure no one walks alone on their journey towards protection, justice and a decent life for forced migrants through legal assistance, psychosocial support, research projects, community initiatives and more. The award recognizes their efforts in advocating the importance of protecting people’s human dignity, respect and freedom.
Originally administered by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Hong Kong, the hk prize was transferred to Arizona State University after Beijing’s imposition of a draconian national security law in June 2020 forced the closure of nine media outlets in Hong Kong. The awards are presented on World Press Freedom Day, which falls on May 3 every year.
Each year, students can nominate their artwork by submitting online before the submission deadline. Then, each piece of artwork will be reviewed and scored by a panel of judges.
